About the Volat shelter

Volat fortifications are multi-section multipurpose shelters for civil and military purposes. They are designed by highly qualified specialists and have passed field and physical tests at the State Research Institute of Building Structures in Kyiv. It can withstand excessive air shock wave pressure of almost 850 kPa. The walls are made of a patented iron fiber concrete formula.

The shelter elements are manufactured from a unique concrete composition that meets all the requirements and standards of DSTU B (V.2.6-2:2009), DSTU-N B (A.3.1-34:2016), DSTU B (V.2.6-168:2011) and DSTU 9195:2022 "Rapidly constructed "modular type civil defense protective structures" and DBN V.2.2-5:2023 "Civil defense protective structures". 

They have reinforced reinforcement with reinforcement with a diameter of up to 18 mm, reinforcing meshes that are located with an offset so that the intersection of one mesh is opposite the holes of the other mesh; internal concrete composition of appropriate strength; metal fiber filler.

The Volat shelter is quickly erected, consists of separate blocks - prefabricated elements, connected by welds with the possibility of disconnection (unwelding or cutting) of welded joints for repeated subsequent connection/disconnection. It can be installed on the surface of the ground, partially or completely buried. Assembly time from 6 to 10 hours.

Technical information

Structurally, the Volat mobile reinforced concrete shelter consists of a set of standard products (sections). The final number of standard sections in the module may vary. Diaphragms with door openings are installed along the length of the module. Blank diaphragms are installed at the ends of the module. The shelter can be constructed in various versions: 2, 3 sections, blank walls, with loopholes, with a coating that increases explosion resistance, etc. The shelter sections are connected to each other by welding using embedded parts.

The Volat fortification structure - designer has a protection class of A-I/A-II/A-III. With a wall thickness of 300 mm, it perceives an excessive air shock wave pressure of 849.94 kPa, corresponds to class A-I and classes A-II, A-III and A-IV without additional reinforcement elements, and in case of collapse has a degree of attenuation of radiation impact Kz from 1000 to 5000, provides protection from fragmentation elements of warheads (shells, missiles, etc.) and the impact of other elements that are captured by the shock wave without destruction or tipping.

The spatial rigidity of the structure is ensured by the formwork dimensions of typical sections and their joint operation, as well as the stiffness diaphragms available along the length.

Materials. All load-bearing reinforced concrete elements of the frame are made of concrete of class C35/45 wall. When reinforcing all reinforced concrete elements of the frame, longitudinal working reinforcement is adopted of class A500C, transverse reinforcement - of class A500C. Embedded parts are made of metal of grade C245. Reinforcement selection is made taking into account crack resistance.

Other types of use of the fortification structure of the designer Volat: military fortification facilities, dual-purpose protective structures, civil defense protective structures, civil defense protective structures for commercial enterprises, protection of critical infrastructure facilities.

The shelter meets the requirements and standards of DSTU. Under the conditions of construction based on the project, it can meet the requirements of DBN. Our shelters are easily combined with each other, creating a space for protection from 1 to 30+ people. Available in various versions: from 2 to 10+ sections; with blank walls; with windows.

Calculation using numerical modeling

A study was conducted to build a calculation scheme for individual elements and the entire modular mobile reinforced concrete fortification shelter of the "Volat" type based on the results of numerical modeling from calculated dangerous factors, determine the main characteristics of the calculation model (joint deformations under load, total loads on the structure and loads transmitted to the foundation), determine the calculated force combinations in the main structural elements, and determine the necessary reinforcement of load-bearing reinforced concrete structures.

According to the technical report, based on the results of numerical modeling from calculated dangerous factors, the adopted cross-sections of the load-bearing elements of the structure in the drawings of the KZV brand of stage P are sufficient to perceive the acting loads.

All loads that were taken into account in the calculation scheme, for conveniences are summarized in the table and given below. The calculation was performed using the Structure CAD (SCAD) software package, for which the calculation scheme was drawn up.

Snow and wind loads were not taken into account due to their insignificance compared to the value of the load from the action of the air shock wave.

The scheme took into account the soil resistance under the foundation slab, assuming its value С1 = 100 t/m3.

Consequence class СС1, determined in accordance with DBN V.1.2-14:2018 "General principles for ensuring the reliability and structural safety of buildings and structures." Category "A" is adopted for loads (for the main load-bearing elements).
